JUBILEE YEAR OF ALBERT SCHWEITZER (2025)
OUR ACTIVITIES AND OUR ACTIONS
In 2020, AGAAS focused its efforts particularly on:
International missions
Communication
Field actions
Field activities were hindered by the public health emergency, but significant objectives were still achieved. A key milestone was a working session with the Minister of National Education’s office to present the Schweitzer Day project.
The Minister honored us with an audience in his office, where we introduced AGAAS and its activity plans, while also seeking the Ministry’s support for:
The organization of a nationwide event dedicated to the life and work of Albert Schweitzer: SCHWEITZER DAY – 90 Minutes for Selflessness, to be held annually on April 16.

Incorporating the legacy of Great Gabonese Figures into school curricula.
June 18, 2019: Working session with the President of the International Foundation of the Dr. Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Lambaréné (FISL). This exchange of ideas helped explore potential synergies to preserve and promote the legacy of Dr. Albert Schweitzer.
March 4, 2020: Meeting with the Director General of Cultural Heritage at the Gabonese Ministry of Culture and Arts. This marked the launch of AGAAS’s advocacy efforts to revive the nomination process of the former Albert Schweitzer Hospital for UNESCO World Heritage status. (See attached report.)
February 26, 2020: Working session with the local President of the NGO ODL.
March 5, 2020: Meeting to prepare for Schweitzer Day 2020 and discuss upcoming social initiatives.

.
France : Association of LA CHAINE DE L’ESPOIR
Meeting with Dr. Alain Deloche, Founder and President of the NGO LA CHAÎNE DE L’ESPOIR.
Dr. Deloche, who has firsthand knowledge of the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Lambaréné and attended its centenary celebrations in July 2013, expressed his willingness to share his expertise.
Given that Lambaréné remains central to his work, many partnership opportunities are possible.
It is crucial to collaborate to ensure that actions and initiatives are developed, approved, funded, and implemented in the short, medium, and long term.

A newly legalized association, AGAAS must make itself known, particularly to the public, institutions, and partners.
At the same time, there is a need to raise public awareness in order to bring the thought and work of Dr. Albert Schweitzer back to the center of discussions and debates. Naturally, the city of Lambaréné should benefit from this by positioning itself at the heart of Schweitzerian dynamics.

OUR FINANCES AND OUR PARTNERS
OVERVIEW OF OUR FINANCES IN 2021
The budget executed in 2020 amounted to 2,073,265 AXF, despite the extremely challenging context in our country and worldwide, mainly due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Various fundraising efforts helped collect a total of 2,200,000 AXF.
The reserves in our accounts amount to 146,735 AXF.
Travel expenses for international trips were not funded by AGAAS. The Association's funds remain insufficient, or even nonexistent.
The financing of projects has relied solely on the generosity of a few benefactors.
Nevertheless, the planned activities were fully financed overall.
Income-generating activities could not be scheduled due to the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, which continues to impact the world.
While it is true that the economic situation remains difficult, we must learn or relearn to pay at least the membership dues, ensuring the smooth operation of AGAAS administration.
OUR FINANCES IN 2020
AGAAS's internal funding should undoubtedly represent its primary financial resource.
We remind you that contributions can be paid monthly or annually.
Additionally, we must make a special effort to ensure that our internal contributions and fundraising initiatives cover all our fixed expenses, demonstrating the seriousness of our actions, which have been recognized and accepted by the majority of AGAAS members.
This will allow us to seek donations, sponsorships, and, later, public funding.
For 2021, we proposed the following projects to the General Assembly, which approved the initiatives below (see project details in the annex):
Second edition of Schweitzer Day in April 2021
Networking efforts to include the former Albert Schweitzer Hospital on UNESCO's tentative heritage list (May 2021)
Organization of the Seminar on Albert Schweitzer’s Thought and Work
Production of greeting cards and the AGAAS calendar (November 2021)
Providing meals to GEFs and elderly individuals (December 2021)
Planned Investments:
Laptop
Printer
Internet connection
Two investments are planned for the purchase of IT equipment.
By supporting local communities and encouraging initiatives rooted in Schweitzer’s principles, we strive to create a brighter and healthier future for all.
